Vasantham Federation is registered under TN society’s registration act 1975 in 2010.  It was started in October 2002 with the financial and technical support of CBR Forum, Bengaluru.  Only 290 PWDS (person with disabilities) were organized into disabled self-help groups/ Disabled people organization at the inception with the support of IRCDS NGO who promoted Vasantham.  From village level group’s all the pwds were federated to block level and thus emerged Vasantham Federation in the year 2005. Thenceforth it started identifying, enrolling and working with disabled and now it has 15817 memberships throughout the district. It works under 5 major matrixes such as Health, Education, Livelihood, Social inclusion and Empowerment. It protects and promotes the Rights, Welfare and Dignity of all disabled across the district irrespective of caste, gender, category, religion and language. It works for all the 21 types of disabilities and ensures cross disability and gender equality at all levels of its intervention and in administrative practice.  Vasantham works towards ensuring an equitable world where Rights and Dignity of disabled persons are realized and where they participate fully and effectively in the society as other non-disabled participate in the society.

Four pillars strategy of vasantham………

  1. Sensitize all disabled about their Rights and responsibilities
  2. Facilitate to avail rehabilitation services, welfare and social security schemes through convergence of resources
  3. Ensure that all mainstream development schemes and initiatives are inclusive and sensitive to the needs of disabled
  4. Build the capacity of disabled with the support from other organizations to realize their Rights through formation of DPOs and their collective action.

Vasantham Federation is one of the strongest and huge federations in the state. It has a very good rapport and cordial relationship with district administration, DDAWO, other district departments. It has good networking linkages with TN state level Federation and in National Federations. It holds a general body membership in national level network where 60000 plus disabled are members and the president of Vasantham is the vice president in Southern regional Federation of the disabled persons.  He has also recently received the best leader award from TN state government for his tireless and altruistic work carried out to disability. At present he received Honorary Doctorate from Delhi University for his selfless services rendered to disabled and to their families
